Congratulations, you’ve just bought your first home. After the paperwork is filed and the keys are in hand, the truly fun part can begin. With no landlords to check with, you can personalize your new home in any way you choose!
After all, decorating a new home is all part of the experience of owning a significant investment. You may have bought the house intending to remodel, or it could be already perfectly to your tastes!
And of course, that’s why you bought it.
Adding your unique touches to a home without undertaking lengthy renovations can be simple, as well as relatively inexpensive. Here are some of our favorite ways to add a personal touch to your new home without spending a fortune.
Add A Splash of Color
An inexpensive way to add your personal touch should naturally begin with adding some of your favorite colors. Paint an accent wall in your favorite shade, or add feature walls throughout your home to add some flavor to your house.
If you don’t want to paint, you can also add color to even the blandest of rooms by adding a vibrant lounge throw, pillow or even colored vinyl wall stickers.
Wallpaper the Bathroom
Most bathrooms are limited for space which also means there may not be much room to decorate. An easy way to spice up a straightforward bathroom is by applying wallpaper. You can either order wallpaper colors and patterns online or instore from major retailers. One of our personal favorite tricks over at Nonstop Signs & Graphics is creating custom wallpaper.
You can add any colors, shapes, images or more that you can imagine when you create your own customizable wallpaper. Always be sure that the company you’re working with is using quality wallpaper product that withstands humidity and won’t bubble or peel at the first sight of steam!
Create a Pop On Tile with Colored Vinyl Wrap
If you have tiles in your bathroom, kitchen or other areas that aren’t your favorite, you can cover them up. Vinyl wrap is perfect to accomplish this, and it’s waterproof, long-lasting and nonpermanent if you ever feel like changing the look again.
Vinyl wrap can be created in solid colors or fully printed with images, texts or shapes. It is easily installed on most flat surfaces. One of our favorite tricks for vinyl wrap is putting it on the face of each step on a staircase to create an unexpected accent.
Put Your Hobbies to Work
Use your hobbies as part of your home decoration. If you are a musician, instruments are a great conversation piece when hanging from a wall. If you create stitch work quilts, you can use examples of your work to add color to any room. If you happen to create metal artworks, they can also add excellent character to any room. No matter what your hobby is, you can use it to create a unique display in any room. Be creative!
Canvas Prints
If your hobbies are too difficult to display, there are other ways to showcase your favorite things. If you are into car racing or horse riding as a hobby, adding canvas prints of your favorite cars, or of you riding your horse makes for a great personal touch.
Instead of buying a generic print of a tropical destination to hang in your home, have a picture printed of your favorite spot on earth. It’ll make for a conversation piece and inspire happy thoughts when you see it!
Incorporate Vinyl for Easy Wall Art & Wall Murals
Do you love old movies or have a favorite band you like to obsess over? Why not add some wall art in the way of vinyl stickers to add character to your home? Vinyl decals cut into the shape of James Dean, or the band KISS is one way to add unique style to your home. There are so many options available when it comes to what you can create with vinyl. It’s also inexpensive and lasts a long time!
Like the vinyl images of your favorite artists, wall murals can come in many shapes, colors, and sizes. You could have one professionally created by an artist, or just let your kids loose with the paints. One great way is to have them printed as removable wall decals. Wall decals are a great way to create murals, and if you want to change it later, you have no need to repaint the wall. You can simply remove the decal and start again. Murals can be small and simple, or they can utilize the entire wall space, printed in full color. There are no limits.
Window Art
One very understated way to add a unique touch to your new home is with window art. Vinyl stickers are a simple and inexpensive way to add color, character, and style to any room, and clear and translucent vinyl looks great on windows. You can create stained glass windows without spending a fortune, or you can add a visual message to the outside world. You can be as creative as you like when it comes to window art, and it is simple (and cheap) enough to change it seasonally.
Installing unique decor in your new home can be inexpensive and straightforward, and it allows you to be creative. When personalizing your home, using nontraditional materials and customized pieces aren’t the first options most think of. However, vinyl wall art, window decals, tile covers and more are perfect conversation-starters and the way to ensure no one else has your decor scheme.
